This topic is dear to me. I'm convinced that we can change things as long as we're united, as long as we work together, regardless the things we want to change. It might seem useless to replace the incandescence bulb with a fluo compact bulb in my living room. The savings are minor. A few grams of CO2 not emitted every year, an electricity bill down a few dollars. It sounds pointless. But I'm just a link in the chain, and if each link starts reducing its CO2 emissions by a few grams, then we'll be able to mitigate the effects of global warming And this, I believe, can be applied in any area. There's not much I can do against the monoply of Orange, SFR and Bouygues (the 3 French mobile carriers) and blow the whistle on the agreement signed between them regarding the abnormally high price of text messages. But if all who have been swindled by these carriers or are fed up with having to pay a price that doesn't reflect the actual cost for these carriers of a text message act together, then we can make things change. Class actions have to be legal in France. But apparently, big companies are still too powerful, and in league with the French president, for this to happen in the near future. But it clearly doesn't mean we have to give up, and that we'll never succeed. One small step after another, we will reach our goal.
This idea is expressed in both texts below.
"Tell me, how much does a snowflage weigh?", the titmouse asked the dove. "Not more than nothing", answered the dove. Then the titmouse told the dove a little story: "I was standing on the branch of a fir-tree when it started to snow. It wasn't a storm, the snow was falling quietly, peacefully, just like in a dream. Since I had nothing better to do, I started to count the number of snawflakes falling on the branch on which I was standing. 3.751.952 snowflakes fell. When the 3.751.953th touched the branch, not more than nothing as you put it, it broke."
Then the titmouse flew away.
The dove, a expert in peace since Noah's time, thought about it for a while and said: "We may be one person away to see the world change so that everyone on Earth can live in peace!" |
If the note said : a note doesn't make the melody, ... there would be no symphony.
If the word said : a word doesn't make a page, ... there would be no book.
If the brick said : a brick doesn't make a wall, ... there would be no house.
If the raindrop said : a drop doesn't make a river, ... there would be no ocean.
If the wheat berry said : a wheat berry cannot sow a field, ... there would be no harvest.
If the man said : an act of love cannot save humanity, ... there never would have been justice and peace, dignity and happiness on Earth.
Just like a symphony needs every note, Just like a book needs every word, Just like a house needs every brick, Just like a river needs every raindrop, Just like a harvest needs every wheat berry,
the whole humanity needs you, where you are, unique, hence irreplaceable. |
